Weatherly Area School District held a Veterans Day Assembly on Wednesday. The elementary chorus sang “Hero’s Song”. The middle school chorus sang “Song for the Unsung Hero”. The high school chorus sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Armed Forces – The Pride of America”. The high school band performed “The Unknown Soldier”. The school nurse, Mrs. Rebecca McFadden, sang “”So Small”. American Legion Post 360 Commander, Joseph Thomas spoke on “What is a Veteran”. The main speaker was Master Sgt. Chris Blackwell. At the conclusion of the program, trumpet players, Kim Ray and Joel Hinkle, performed “Taps”.
Sgt. Blackwell is a member of the 201st REDHORSE unit of the Air National Guard and is stationed in Fort Indiantown Gap. He is a heavy equipment and crane instructor at the Air Force Regional Training site at the Gap. He has served in the Air National Guard for 30 years. The WASD presented Sgt. Blackwell with a plaque honoring his 30 years of service
